The Modesto Farmer's Market

A weekly event that happens every Saturday morning from 8am to 1pm, rain or shine. The Modesto Certified Farmer’s Market began in May of 2009.

The Modesto Certified Farmer’s Market’s purpose is to provide the Modesto community with an outlet to purchase fresh, local, and seasonal fruits, vegetables, flowers, eggs, and other items directly from the farmers who grow them. The Modesto Certified Farmer’s Market also provides an opportunity for the community to come together and enjoy live music and other entertainment. The Modesto Certified Farmer’s Market is located on 17th and I Streets, in front of the City’s famous Gallo Center for the Arts.

The Modesto Certified Farmer’s Market (MCFM) is a source of fresh, local, and seasonal fruits, vegetables, and other items from local farmers. Shoppers can purchase directly from the farmers or from local craftsman and food vendors. The MCFM was established in May of 2009 in order to contribute to the sustainability and economic development of the City of Modesto and to bring fresh produce and other items to the local community. The MCFM runs every Saturday from 8am to 1pm and is located on 17th and I streets in front of the Gallo Center for the Arts. The MCFM is a non-profit organization run by city staff and volunteers, and relies on the support of local businesses, organizations and volunteers. The MCFM sets itself apart from other markets by being California Certified, meaning it meets certain high standards of quality and safety established by the California State Legislature. This sets the MCFM apart from other farmer’s markets, providing a safe and high-quality shopping experience for Modesto residents.

Shoppers of the MCFM are assured of quality and freshness, as the farmers and vendors are required to meet strict standards set by the state of California in order to be certified. Moreover, all farmers participating in the market must be certified to ensure only the freshest, highest quality produce is available for shoppers. Shoppers of the MCFM can feel good about where and how their food was grown, as the market supports local and sustainable agricultural practices. Supporting local farmers and the MCFM helps to keep the money in the local economy and supports Modesto’s agricultural industry. The MCFM also supports the local economy in another way. All of the vendors participating in the MCFM are locally owned and operated businesses and craftsmen. All the revenue generated by these vendors is kept in the local economy, contributing to the economic well being of the whole city.

Shoppers can find a wide variety of fruits, vegetables, eggs, and other items from local farmers at the MCFM. In addition to produce, shoppers can find locally made home and garden items, fresh seafood, flowers, and natural beauty products. The MCFM also offers a variety of locally produced craft foods and condiments, such as olive oils, salsas, jams, and honey, as well as a variety of freshly baked goods and items for special dietary needs. In addition to produce and goods, the MCFM also features live music and entertainment every Saturday. Local artisans, jewelry-makers, and other crafters offer their merchandise as well.

Becoming a vendor at the MCFM requires the completion of a vendor application and agreement. Vendors must fill out the application, sign the agreement and return it to the MCFM office with a copy of a valid business license. The MCFM office will review the application and, if approved, the MCFM team will contact the vendor to discuss final details. Once approved, vendors must also obtain a Cal-Conn Insurance Policy from the MCFM office, as well as have a stall or tent of their own. The MCFM will provide a map of stall locations and vendors are responsible for providing all their own materials for the stall.
